Algonquin Provincial Park is the mother of all parks in Ontario . Whether you’ve visited the sprawling park or not, you probably know where it is or heard some friend’s crazy adventure story about their experience there.  Occupying 7630 square kilometers of beautiful Ontario land, Algonquin Park is home to an array of wildlife and host to a variety of recreational activities and accommodations.

In general, the park is divided into three major components: Park Interior, Parkway Corridor and Peripheral Campgrounds/Resorts/Inns.  Algonquin’s interior can only by explored by foot or by canoe.  Portaging * is a very popular park activity and there are many outfitters lining Highway 60 that will suit you up with the appropriate equipment for your trip into pristine wilderness.  Also along the edges of Highway 60, you’ll find museums, hiking paths, and picnic areas.  Algonquin Park is home to four remote campgrounds set apart from the major highway that runs through it.  If you are not so excited by camping out but still crave the nature experience, there are lodges for rent inside the park and a whole slew of privately owned resorts and inns both within and just outside the park limits.

There’s always something going on at Algonquin Park !  For example, in early September, you can join volunteers from the Royal Astronomical Society for a night of stargazing.  In addition to special events, the park also offers a complete schedule of interpretative events and hikes. Outfitters also provide interesting opportunities for park visitors.  For example, Northern Edge Algonquin organizes all-inclusive (i.e., you don’t need your own gear) Wolf Howl canoe trips every weekend in August and September.  This is on our “To Do” list!
