As we continued on our mission to track down area waterfalls, we drove up into the Spencer Gorge/Webster’s Falls Conservation Area. The two waterfalls are found within the limits of the CA and you can hike to the top and bottom of each. As an added bonus, one of the trails in the park leads you to the
Dundas
Peak
which offers amazing views over
Hamilton
and
Dundas
.
A quick hike up a slow-ascending hill and you’ll be presented with
Tews
Falls
!
Tews
Falls
is one of the highest waterfalls along the escarpment. It’s a good idea to go in the springtime because (according to area hikers), the walls dry up a bit in the warmer months. We spent some time taking pictures of the falls and moved along to find Webster falls.

Webster’s Falls, though they may not appear to be so large on first sight, are only a few metres shorter than the
Niagara Falls
! At 41 metres high, the falls make for an impressive runner-up. A half hour after leaving Tews, we caught our first glimpse of Webster’s from above. Then, we proceeded down the gorge’s edge, across a bridge and down a set of stairs to get to the base of Webster’s.
Beware of slippery stairs! I have trouble with slipping in the best of circumstancesthe stairs when they are wet can be back-breaking so be very careful. From the base of
Webster
Falls
, you can hike alongside the cascading water back to Tews but we opted to retrace

our steps due to the slip-factor. The trail along the base of the gorge is apparently a tricky one and is not routinely maintained, so come prepared!
The
Hamilton
region is just full of waterfalls to visit! We’ll have to select our next ones soon…
